Biography

Kalvakuntla Kavitha was born in Karimnagar to Telangana’s first CM K.Chandrashekhar Rao and Shobha. She completed her schooling at Stanley Girl’s School, Hyderabad. Later, she went on to pursue engineering from VNRVJIET. Finally, she received her Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2001.

Personal Life

Kavitha got married in the year 2003 to Anil Kumar and is blessed with two kids, Aaditya and Aarya. She was settled in the USA with her husband and worked there as a software engineer before heading back to India in 2004 to join the people in the movement for Telangana’s statehood.

Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s Inclination Towards Telangana Movement

In 2006, Kalvakuntla Kavitha adopted some villages in the Nalgonda district and educated the local people and poor children for free. In the same year, Telangana Movement got the raw force as CM Chandrashekhar Rao resigned from the Union Cabinet to communicate his strong disagreement. However, he fulfilled his commitment to the formation of a new state with the help of the Central Government. The movement motivated millions of Telangana residents who left their jobs and volunteered for the same.

Driven by the devotion and sacrifices of several leaders for Telangana movement, Kavitha too became an active member of the movement. For having hands-on insights regarding the obstacles concerning the people, Kavitha visited Telangana’s remote villages. Despite the crisis of people living in the state, she noticed that Telangana’s residents had a great love and passion for native art and culture beyond all sections. She believed that inclination for native arts could be a traditional thread to join all sections of their community together.

During the Telangana Movement, Kavitha actively protested with Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Telangana JAC against the respective Governments at the Centre and State Level. She took part in all the agitations organized by T-JAC, such as Million March, Rail Roko, Sadak Bandh, Sagara Haaram, and Chalo Assembly. Unfortunately, due to her pro-activeness, she was arrested several times during the movement.

Formation of Telangana Jagruti

With the Telengana movement in full swing, Kavitha realized the significance of weaving the cultural renaissance of Telangana together in a single thread. This motivation gave birth to Telangana Jagruthi. Telangana Jagruthi instilled the feeling of togetherness by inducing valour and pride in regional festivals like Bathukamma, whose permissions for celebrations would initially require court orders. As a result, Telangana Jagruthi has grown by leaps and bounds and has transformed into a strong socio-cultural organization with thousands of dedicated members across the globe.

Bringing motivation from the ongoing people’s campaign for the statehood of Telangana and a great urge to work for the benefit of the people led Kavitha to the form of Telangana Jagruthi in August 2006. Telangana Jagruthi played a key role in gathering the support of youth as well as women. The renowned sections of the community which served as strength were driven by the calm and non-violent fight for the Independent Statehood of Telangana.

Political Life

After founding Telangana Jagruthi, Kavitha decided to serve society in a greater manner and joined TRS Party. She contested her first-ever General Assembly Election from Nizamabad, Telangana State, and became the first women MP from newly carved Telangana. She actively participated in the Telangana state movement from 2009 to 2014. In 2014 she was elected for the 16th Lok Sabha from Nizamabad Lok Sabha Constituency. Currently she is the MLC of Nizamabad.

Social Work

As a representative of the people, Kavitha launched many campaigns like SistersForChange, GiftAHelmet that were acknowledged by people across India.

Her persistent devotion during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the implementation of successive nationwide lockdowns, ensured that many lives were touched and healed. She brought back students, migrants, and people stuck across India and overseas back home. She responded to SOS calls actively on her social media and ensured speedy redressals.

Kavitha has been consistently working towards building a society that believes in peaceful co-existence and embraces humanity. Her efforts in public space have brought a significant change, especially for a nascent state like Telangana that found tirelessly for its unique identity.
