Nizamabad MP K.Kavitha on Monday urged the Centre to extend work days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (MGNREGS) in the state and also sought additional funds under the Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP).
Kavitha wrote a letter to Union Rural Development Minister Choudhary Birender Singh in which she informed the Centre that nearly 1.85 lakh people were benefited under the MGNREGS last year. 60,000 people completed 75 work days till now this year and 13,000 completed 100 work days but have no further work to do, she explained.
Kavitha said the State government had utilised the services of MGNREGS workers for taking up various works and also for the proposed Haritha Haaram plantation drive which starts next month.
Kavitha urged the Centre to extend the work days by 50 more days for utilising the workforce to take up Haritha Haaram on a large-scale. She said under the IWMP, a Central government scheme, `433.14 crore has been released and works are going on in 14 lakh hectares. “For completion of the works, an additional `127.74 crore is needed and we urge the Centre to look into the issue,’’ she appealed.
