Kalvakuntla Kavitha, is currently the Member of Parliament from Nizamabad constituency in Telangana state. She represents the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party.
Kavitha was born in Karim Nagar and did her schooling from Stanley Girls High School in Hyderabad. She completed her Engineering from VNRVJIET and then went to US to pursue her Masters in Computer Science.
In 2003 Kavitha married Anil Kumar. The couple have two kids Aditya and Arya.
Kavitha returned back India in 2004, to play an active role in the ongoing Telangana statehood movement.
Within a short span of time, Kavitha realized the importance of having a strong organizational framework for the cultural renaissance of Telangana. And thus was born Telangana Jagruthi.
Soon after its inception, Jagruthi started playing an important role in Telangana cultural renaissance.
Under Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s able leadership, Telangana Jagruthi has grown by leaps and bounds and has transformed into a strong socio-cultural organization with thousands of dedicated members.
Today, Jagruthi has become synonymous with Bathukamma – the unique festival of Telangana. Every year, Jagruthi chapters celebrate Bathukamma across the globe, in thousands of locations.
Along with the activities of Telangana Jagruthi, Kalvakuntla Kavitha is also active in the various protests organized by Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Telangana JAC. She took part in all the agitations organized by T-JAC such as Million March, Rail Roko, Sadak Bandh, Sagara Haaram, and Chalo Assembly etc. She was arrested several times during the Telangana statehood agitation.
Kavitha contested the 2014 general elections on behalf of TRS party from Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat. She won by a margin of about 1.7 Lakhs over her nearest rival.
